Description

Three keywords describing expertise and interest:

  1. Qualitative Methods
  2. Video-based & Observational

Description of field of expertise, major interests, and consultation topics:

I have extensive experience working in and consulting with inexperienced clinicians & researchers in qualitative and mixed methods for a variety of health areas, including oncology, rheumatology, mental health, and health services research and systematic reviews. I am particularly skilled at helping researchers who are novice and intermediate in qualitative methods collecting data for and analyzing interviews and focus groups. However, my passion is audiovisual-based and observational research. I have worked across analytic methods, including thematic analysis, qual content analysis, and the Grounded Theory Method (GTM), but my passion is using Discourse and Conversation Analytic approaches.

Brief biography:

I am a communication scientist with training at the intersection of linguistics, sociology, and communication studies. My research seeks to understand communication about health and illness through investigating language as a discursive social process. Overall, my work aims to show how communication can encourage culturally and interactionally sensitive care, to facilitate holistic well-being, and to foster thoughtful reflection about the roles of health and illness in contemporary society.
