Purpose of tool:

b. to teach specific communication skills required for cultural sensitive communication with migrants with language barriers and with patients with low literacy
c. examine challenges in teaching and be able to demonstrate a variety of appropriate methods for teaching cross-cultural communication.
Brief description:
The workshop aims to
a. enhance the awareness of one’s own cultural beliefs, to teach specific communication skills required for cultural sensitive communication with migrants with language barriers and with patients with low literacy
b. examine challenges in teaching and be able to demonstrate a variety of appropriate methods for teaching cross-cultural communication. (talking in triads with interpreter and patient) recognizing low literacy and using plain language and visual aids and applying teach-back method.
c. The description describes learning objectives, various didactic methods in detail (e.g ice-breaking and activating prior knowledge, reflections, roleplay with SP, assessment), no specific material (e.g. SP role script) is provided. The description can be used together with `A walk in the park´and the checklist on assessing intercultural communication skills.
