Biography/CV:

Dr. Olayinka Shiyanbola is an Associate Professor in the Division of Social and Administrative Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy, and an Associate Director at the UW Collaborative Center for Health Equity. Her research program advances the use of patient-centered approaches to improve diabetes and related disease outcomes in marginalized populations, health literacy, and health equity. Currently, she uses mixed methods research in her studies focused on behavioral interventions that engage community health workers and/or peer mentors to address psychosocial and sociocultural factors affecting medication use and diabetes self-management among racial and ethnic minority groups. As an NIH scholar/fellow, Dr. Shiyanbola received training in health disparities research, randomized behavioral clinical trials, and Mixed Methods. She was a Society of Behavioral Medicine Leadership Fellow and is an appointed member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Roundtable on Health Literacy. She has been funded by the NIH, AHRQ, UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, MERCK, and Community Pharmacy Foundation.
