tEACH Forum: Addressing Communication Needs in Inclusion Health

tEACH Forum – Addressing Communication Needs in Inclusion Health

Speaker: Leigh Andrews

People experiencing homelessness state that communication barriers prevent access to healthcare. We know that most deaths in this group are from conditions amenable to treatment so we must ask “are we providing a service that supports effective communication?” Hear about the communication issues faced by this community and some of the techniques that can help address them. We will also consider how we can use some of these lessons in our teaching.

Leigh Andrews has worked for 15 years with people experiencing homelessness before training as a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT). She is chair of the SLT Homelessness Clinical Excellence Network and an honorary lecturer at City, University of London, the largest trainer of SLTs in the UK. She works for Change Communication – the only organisation specifically providing a communication support service to inclusion health groups.

This event is part of a monthly series organised by tEACH – the teaching subcommittee of EACH.
