Direct observation of provider-patient interactions: Implications for health communication education
This webinar will provide a brief overview of direct observation methodologies (i.e. audio/video recording of clinical interactions) and how they may be employed to conduct detailed quantitative analyses of healthcare communication practices. I will discuss how the results of this work can be used to inform healthcare communication skills training and education. I will draw on a research example of communication about overweight and obesity in primary care consultations.
