Alexia Papageorgiou has been working in the academic field of clinical communication for more than twenty years. Her scholarly work has been published in international conference proceedings and refereed academic journals, books and book chapters. In her current role as Professor of Medical Education and Clinical Communication at the University of Nicosia Medical School she has been responsible for developing and implementing a complex teaching and learning portfolio in clinical communication for four different programmes (two undergraduate and two graduate) in a country with no previous medical education tradition or infrastructure and then deploying some of it overseas to our sites in Chicago and Tel Aviv.  Her leadership and management skills have contributed not only to successful teaching and learning development but also to the expansion of the Medical School in terms of programmes and student numbers.  Her enthusiasm and dedication have changed the culture of the field of medical education in Cyprus and have helped the Medical School to achieve degree-awarding powers by the General Medical Council (GMC), the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (DI.P.A.E.).
As a person and an academic she is passionate about developing higher education and empowering academics to achieve their full potential.
