HCER webinar – Building bridges: The power of communication in the patient/provider relationship

The presenter is :Laura Dempster (she/her), BScD, MSc, PhD

Dr. Laura Dempster is a Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. In her role as an academic she is the course director of the Behavioural Science and Communication Skills programs and co-director in the Introduction to Research Methods and Research Dissemination Seminars. Laura leads the Education Research theme at Dentistry and held the inaugural Kamienski Professorship in Dental Education Research. Her program of education research focuses on teaching and learning, the clinician/patient relationship, the development and assessment of communication skills, and patients’ experience with dental care. Further contributions are as a Wilson Centre Scholar at the Wilson Centre for Research in Education and an Affiliated Scientist at the Centre for Ambulatory Care Education (CACE), Women’s College Hospital. Laura also chairs the Faculty Development Committee and Dentistry’s Faculty Council. For many years Laura has played an active role in both the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD) and its American counterpart, the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), with longstanding involvement in the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) Education Research Group. She is a Past President of the Ontario Dental Hygienists Association (ODHA), the ACFD, and the IADR Education Research Group. She continues to contribute to dental education, research and scholarship in these and other groups locally, nationally and internationally.
