The Pairing with Colleagues programme was initiated by tEACH, the Teaching Committee of EACH, at the ICCH meeting in 2007 and has continued to be a successful part of the ICCH meetings annually. The purpose of the programme is to provide a formal way for junior colleagues to network with more experienced colleagues at the meeting. The “Pairing with Colleagues” session allows less experienced colleagues to have an opportunity for dedicated time to discuss their teaching, research, policy/practice issues with more experienced persons in the field during the meeting. These sessions will give those with more expertise the opportunity to share their experience and expertise with more junior colleagues.
The time commitment will be as little or as much as you like. The minimal time commitment includes communicating with your matched colleague prior to the conference and choosing a time that you will meet for at least 1 hour during the meeting. There will be designated times set aside for pairs to meet during the conference, or pairs can choose to meet at a different time convenient to them. If after meeting you choose to spend more time together or continue corresponding, that is your choice.
Seniors
Senior colleagues who are willing to share their expertise in communication in healthcare with a less experienced colleagues have been invited to sign up. Though we refer to participants as “seniors”, this is not meant to reflect age but rather that someone would be comfortable sharing what experience they have had in the field of communication and healthcare.
Junior colleagues will be able to view information about senior participants and choose with whom they would like to be matched. Both seniors and juniors must both be either “in person” or “online”.
Seniors who have been chosen by the number of juniors they would be willing to meet with (seniors can choose 1-3), will automatically be removed from the list of eligible seniors. All participants will be notified 4 weeks before the event with whom they have been paired and provided with contact information.

Juniors
Junior colleagues interested in meeting with an experienced colleague to discuss your questions about teaching, research and/or policy in communication in healthcare, are invited you to participate in the “Pairing with Colleagues” programme. Though we refer to participants as “juniors”, this is not meant to reflect age but rather someone who is interested in benefitting from this expertise and receiving some guidance in their own work and career.
Anyone attending the ICCH meeting can participate. To participate, juniors may review the list of participating seniors and select the person whose interests match your needs most closely. Juniors can only choose one senior colleague with whom to meet and both seniors and juniors must either be “online” or “in person”. Final confirmation of matches and information on how to contact your colleague will be sent out in advance of the event.
