Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of the President, President-Elect, Past President, chair of rEACH, chair of tEACH, chair of pEACH, chair of the Advisory Committee and the Treasurer.

The Executive Committee are all trustees of the charity and look after the daily work and functions of the association including the strategic plan, budget planning and finances.

They are the highest decision making body of the association.

President

Lorraine Noble

UK

Lorraine Noble is Professor of Clinical Communication at UCL Medical School in London.

She has a background in clinical psychology, and has specialised in doctor-patient communication and its education for over a quarter of a century.

She has been a member of EACH since its creation in 2001 and served as the elected UK National Representative of EACH from 2014-2020.

Marcy Rosenbaum

USA

Marcy Rosenbaum is Professor of Family Medicine and Faculty Development Consultant for the Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education at the University of Iowa.

She has been actively involved in teaching, curriculum development and conducting research on clinician-patient communication for the more than 20 years.

She oversees communication skills training for students, residents and practicing health care providers at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She also has spent her career conducting research and directing programs focused on enhancing medical faculty teaching skills in classroom and clinical settings. She has helped facilitate train the trainers seminars throughout the world.

She helped found and tEACH, the teaching committee of EACH.

President-Elect

Richard Brown

USA

Richard Brown Ph.D  FACH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Behavior and Policy at VCU School of Medicine. He is the Director for Communication Innovations in Health Care Laboratory, a Co-Director at Massey Health Communication and Digital Innovation Core and an Associate Editor at Patient Education and Counseling. Dr. Brown’s research has been designed to aid cancer patients and oncologists to communicate more effectively. His research largely centers on developing, implementing, and evaluating communication interventions using the oncologist-patient consultation as the unit of analysis. His research agenda has involved dual paths that have focused on understanding communication from both the patients’ and oncologists’ perspectives.

Dr. Brown’s patient-focused work has included developing and testing patient interventions, such as Question Prompt Lists and Tailored Heath Messages, to help cancer patients be more active communicators during their consultations, to promote shared decision making and patient centered care. His oncologist-focused work has involved the development, implementation, and evaluation of communication training to support sustained uptake skills. Over the past several years he has developed a specialized research focus exploring cancer clinical trial communication.
Dr. Brown continues his work exploring health disparities in communication in health care and has extended that work to include focus to amelioriate health disparities and promote health equity across diverse minority (including race and Sexual/gender minorities), geographic and socioeconomic domains.

Evelyn Watson

Evelyn Watson has been based within the School of Medicine at the University of St Andrews since 2015 and has played a significant role in both research and teaching within this environment. During this time she has played a central role within student wellbeing as part of the pastoral support team. She has been communication skills lead for Undergraduate Medical students since 2016 and has developed this area of the curriculum, incorporating a shift to online teaching and assessment during the pandemic. Recently, her research focus has involved collaborative work exploring the use of empathy tools within medical education, an area she has a passion for. Shakaib Rehman

USA

Dr. Rehman is the Director of Education & Founding Director of Academic Primary Care Practice at the Phoenix VA Healthcare Systems.

He is also serving as the Chair and Professor of Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix (UACOM-P).

He is also the Chair of UACOM-P Admissions Committee and Graduate Medical Education. He received his MD from University of Punjab, Pakistan with Gold Medals in Physiology, Forensic Medicine and Pathology.

He did his Internal Medicine Residency at Nassau University Medical Center/SUNY @Stony Brook, NY. He then graduated from Harvard University’s Executive Fellowship Program.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hypertension and Clinical Informatics. He has recently been elected the Master of American College of Physicians (MACP). Dr. Rehman is a well-recognized expert in Leadership topics/Healthcare Communication.

He has delivered courses/workshops around the world. He was invited to give the Commencement Address on the graduation ceremony of Medical University of South Carolina class of 2013.

He have received numerous awards including David E. Rogers Teaching Award from Society of General Internal Medicine, Department of Veterans Affair Excellence in Medical Education Award, Medical University of South Carolina Best Teacher Award, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) best faculty award, American College of Physicians (ACP) Young Physician Award, James A. McFarland Award in Excellence in Teaching and Humanism, Laureate Award, & Leader of the Year Award.

He has been served as the President of the Society of General Internal Medicine, Mountain West Region and Vice-President of the American Academy on Communications in Healthcare. He was also the Conference Chair for the International Conference on Communication in Healthcare in 2007 & Co-Chair for Scientific committee for 2021. Dr. Rehman has participated in many landmark research trials such as ACCORD, SPRINT, ACCOMPLISH, ONTARGET, PROMINENT etc.

He has published hundreds of articles.

Jane Ege Møller

Denmark

Jane Ege Møller, MA, PhD, is Associate Professor at Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, Denmark. She has a background in literature, communication and philosophy, and has a research focus on medical education and health communication. She is the academic lead for the post-graduate medical communication skills training in the Central Denmark region and has been involved in teaching clinician-patient communication  both undergraduate and postgraduate level for more than 20 years. She has helped facilitate train the trainers seminars throughout the world.

She is the chair of tEACH together with the co-chairs Gozie Offiah and Eva Doherty.

Lode Verreyen

Belgium

Lode was trained as physiotherapist and works as such in a large multidisciplinary private practice in Antwerp.

He also was assistant at the department of Family Medicine and Primary Health Care of the Ghent University. There he was teaching communication to undergraduates of medicine, dentistry, and physiotherapy.

He also was responsible for the training program of simulated patients. Within tEACH he is co-lead, together with Prof. Katrien Bombeke, of the Work Place Based Teaching Tips group.

Treasurer

Maddalena Fiordelli

Switzerland

Maddalena Fiordelli is Scientific Researcher and Lecturer at the USI Faculty of Communication Sciences (CH), where she obtained her PhD in 2009. During her PhD she was visiting scholar at the University of Amsterdam.

Her main research interests include eHealth, mHealth, participatory research, and social isolation. Maddalena collaborates with the Swiss Paraplegic Research and the Faculty of BioMedicine (USI).

Maddalena has been Treasurer of EACH since 2019.
