 An interactive two-module live online course focusing on the content of cl
 inical communication skills teaching: core communication skills\, structur
 e of the healthcare encounters and adapting skills to different clinical s
 ituations and contexts.\n\nThe course is designed for:\n\n 	Early-career t
 eachers of clinical communication skills\n 	Teachers\, who wish to revisit
  the content of their communication skills teaching\n 	Communication skill
 s curriculum developers\n 	Specialists involved in training communication 
 teachers\n\nAs a result of the course\, participants will be able to:\n\n 
 	Define the individual specific skills of effective clinical communication
 \n 	Break down the complex task of a clinical interview into its individua
 l components\n 	Choose or produce a model of communication that best suits
  their teaching needs\n\nDetailed program\n\nThe course will include 4 mai
 n content areas:\n\nCommunication skills teaching: scope and focus\n\n 	di
 scussing the needs and challenges of communication skills teachers\n 	refl
 ecting on what exactly it is that we want to teach\n 	identifying types of
  communication skills and how they can be taught\n\nModels of communicatio
 n\n\n 	exploring different ways to conceptualize clinical communication\n 
 	introduce the concepts of structure\, objectives and skills that are the 
 basis of the widely used communication models\n 	practice spotting individ
 ual skills in recorded consultations\n\n Core communication skills\n\n 	c
 larifying the objectives of different parts of the clinical interview\n 	i
 dentifying the appropriate content of a clinical encounter\n 	spotting ski
 lls of information gathering and information giving in video recordings of
  consultations\n\nChallenging situations\n\nIn this section\, we will:\n\n
  	discuss how core communication skills can be used in specific situations
 \n 	analyze videos of challenging situations (bad news delivery\, strong e
 motions)\n 	reflect on ways to integrate structure\, objectives and specif
 ic situations in communication skills teaching\n\nCourse Facilitators:  M

 utor in Clinical Communication Skills at the School of Clinical Medicine\,
  Cambridge University Hospitals Trust (CUHT) from 2009 to 2023\, she conti
 nues to contribute to the undergraduate curriculum.           
                   Mandy also works as an Independent Coac
 h/Trainer providing one to one coaching and exam support for post graduate
  trainees and delivering a range of training courses such as\; Advanced Co
 mmunication Skills: Training Train the Trainers courses for (EACH)\; the G
 oals of Care courses which helps clinicians develop the key communication 
 skills to discuss serious illness and ceilings of care. Mandy also has a c
 linical background in Palliative and End of life care.\n\nAssociate Prof. 
 Sandra Winterburn\, (Emeritus) RGN\, RMN\, MSC\, PGCE.\nSandra worked as t
 he Academic lead for Undergraduate Clinical Communication at Norwich Medic
 al School (NMS) from 2012 to 2024. On leaving her post the University of E
 ast Anglia (UEA) she was awarded Emeritus status and continues to contribu
 te to the undergraduate curriculum.\nSandra also works as an Independent T
 rainer / Consultant delivering a range of post graduate training courses s
 uch as\; Advanced Communication Skills: Training Train the Trainers course
 s for (EACH)\; the Goals of Care courses which helps clinicians develop th
 e key communication skills to discuss serious illness and ceilings of care
 . Sandra has a clinical background as a clinical nurse specialist in Palli
 ative and End of life care.\nShe has built up wide-ranging experience in d
 eveloping faculty to teach clinical communication effectively and has been
  fortunate to work internationally in countries such as Thailand\, Russia
