SUMMARY:Curriculum Development in Communication Skills Teaching (Part 1)
DESCRIPTION:This online course is directed towards educators of health prof
 essional learners at any level (students\, postgraduate learners\, practic
 ing health care providers)  who wish to develop a new curriculum or enhan
 ce an existing curriculum focused on clinical communication skills.\n\nThe
  course will explore how to develop a curriculum suitable to the healthcar
 e setting each participant operates within\, what to include in the curric
 ulum and how to deliver and implement the curriculum.  The course combine
 s large group interactive sessions presenting theory and concrete steps in
  developing curricula with small group sessions where participants work on
  their individual curriculum development needs.\n\nThe course will be held
  in English and as much as possible will accommodate participants for whom
  English is not their first language. We are aware that institutions in di
 fferent countries will have varying resources in terms of available teache
 rs\, simulated patients and technology and take this into account in helpi
 ng you. The course will be highly interactive and participant centered and
  will enable individual participants to formulate concrete plans for the f
 uture. .\n\nCourse objectives: As a result of this course\, participants w
 ill be able to\n\n 	apply educational theory to designing communication sk
 ills curricula\n 	 organize the core content of the communication curricu
 lum tailored to their learners’ needs \n 	select appropriate teaching me
 thods for each component of the curriculum\n 	integrate communication with
  other clinical skills and the rest of the learners’ program\n 	describe
  key issues in evaluation and implementation of communication curriculum

 ors have extensive experience in curriculum development\, facilitating Tra
 in the Trainers Courses for health professions educators and teaching heal
 th professional learners at all levels.\n\n\n\nMarcy Rosenbaum\, PhD\, is 
 Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of M
 edicine in the US.  She is the Past-President of EACH and former co-chair
  of tEACH\, the teaching committee of EACH.  She has conducted research o
 n and taught about clinical communication and medical education for over 3
 0 years and oversees communication skills curriculum for students\, reside
 nts and practicing clinicians. She has provided faculty development relate
 d to communication skills teaching and curriculum all over the world.\n\n&
 nbsp\;\n\n\n\nDr Gozie Offiah is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Curricu
 lum at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and practised medicine (wi
 th a background in Surgery) for over 15 years in the Health Service Execut
 ive (HSE). She is also the Clinical Lead for the National Intern Training 
 programme in the HSE and the chair of the cross-cultural group of tEACH\, 
 Her teaching experience spans undergraduate\, postgraduate and continuing 
 medical education in health professions education and training.\n\n&nbsp\;
 \n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nDr Anne Marie Regan is a practising clinical/ Neuro psy
 chologist working in clinical practice in varied clinical settings for the
  last 40 years including Health Service Executive West\, &amp\; National D
 isability Authority in Ireland. She an Assistant Scheme Director with the 
 Irish College of General Practitioners GP training programme and has a lea
 d role in overseeing the development of a national curriculum for communic
 ation skills teaching in postgraduate GP training.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n
 \n\n\nDr Claudia Kiessling is a medical doctor by training with a Master d
 egree in Public Health and holds the position of chair and professor for t
 he Education of Personal and Interpersonal Competencies in Health Care at 
 Witten/Herdecke University\, Germany. She has been involved in medical edu
 cation since 1999\, working in several universities in Germany and Switzer
 land. Her work experience includes the development and implementation of m
 edical education programmes\, assessment\, programme evaluation\, and facu
 lty development. Teaching experience includes clinical communication\, tea
 mwork\, reflection\, problem based learning\, and methodology of scientifi
 c working. Her research interests are the development of assessment instru
 ments in the field of clinical communication (SJTs\, performance-based ass
 essment) and the evaluation of educational interventions in medical educat
 ion. She has been member of EACH since 2006 and tEACH since 2011.\n\n&nbsp
