The International Conference on Communication in Healthcare (ICCH) part 2 will be held online 15-16 April 2021.
We are re-opening calls for orals and poster presentations for two topics:
- COVID-19 and
- Implicit bias & institutional racism in relation to communication in healthcare.
The first topic is currently heavily impacting the delivery of care, the second has gained exponential attention in recent months. This focused call will enable us to share the most recent developments with the wider healthcare community. Abstracts reporting on research, teaching or policy & practice work will be considered if they include at least preliminary evaluation or outcome data. Research and intervention plans without data will not be accepted.
Covid-19
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Infectious disease communication
- Mass/public communication
- Strategies for discussing infectious disease
- Maintaining relationship-centered care throughout the pandemic
- Impact of health technology on patient-provider communication
- Implementation of telehealth visits
- Virtual teaching of communication skills
- Communication with relatives/healthcare providers (including end-of-life care)
- Mental health/Psychosocial communication support/Psychotherapy
- Communication & social distancing (e.g. relatives; protective clothing)
- Impact of Covid-19 on sharing decisions
Implicit bias and institutional racism
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Health Equity, Social Justice and Health Disparities in general
- Health Equity, Social Justice and Health Disparities during COVID-19
- Promoting sensitivity to gender differences, bias and cultural diversity in healthcare teaching and delivery
- Healthcare providers and cultural/racial bias and discrimination
- Cultural/racial bias and discrimination in healthcare communication education
- Sampling bias in research on health communication
The deadline for abstract submissions is Monday 23 November 2020. Acceptance notes will be sent early January 2021.
