 on in Oral Surgery”\n\nSpeaker: Mr Jim Carey\nDentistry presents a parti
 cular challenge for clinical communication. Surgical treatments are routin
 ely carried out on patients who are awake or sedated\, and undergraduate d
 ental students require some training in Oral Surgery prior to qualifying. 
 Clinical hypnosis\, and hypnotic techniques\nin clinical communication can
  greatly assist in the management and care of these patients.\n\nMaintaini
 ng a hypnotic focus while teaching requires involving students in a commun
 icative alliance.\n\nJim Carey is a highly experienced Oral Surgeon and De
 ntal Academic based in Peninsula Dental School at the University of Plymou
 th where he leads on the Oral Surgery and Professionalism themes. He has w
 orked primarily in education in Oral Surgery for around two decades\, teac
 hing undergraduate and postgraduate students in a range of subjects includ
 ing Oral Surgery\, Communication Skills\, Dental Anxiety\, and Hypnosis. H
