SUMMARY:Nursing SIG Webinar - Ethnic Diversity in Nursing Education and Pra
 ctice
DESCRIPTION:In many countries nursing is a profession where a variety of et
 hnicities are represented. We see nurses travel for employment and better 
 work conditions and in nursing education we experience a diversity of back
 grounds in the classroom. \n\nAs we experience a wider diversity among pat
 ients in our healthcare system this tendency is positive. Ethnic inequalit
 y in health is a proven fact and a wider diversity among healthcare profes
 sionals can make a difference on an individual and an institutional level 
 when patients with different background meet the healthcare system to get 
 help.\nA research project was conducted in a Danish program for nursing an
 d midwifery education. The project was aimed at describing barriers and op
 portunities for ethnic minority students to succeed in nursing and midwife
 ry education.\nThe results from the project will be presented and we will 
 try to start a discussion on ethnic diversity in nursing education and pra
 ctice in different parts of the world with focus on how ethnic diversity i
 s represented in nursing and midwifery and the effect on patient communica
