SUMMARY:Nursing SIG webinar - Compassion or nuanced and delicate? Exploring
problem-tellings in nurse-patient interaction using conversation analysis
 .
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Rachael Drewery\n\n Rachael is a nurse\, health v
isitor and qualitative researcher\, who specialises in conversation analys
is. Her PhD thesis used conversation analysis to explore compassion in nur
se-patient interaction. She presently works as a qualitative researcher in
the Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxfor
d.\n\nTitle: Compassion or nuanced and delicate? Exploring problem-tellin
gs in nurse-patient interaction using conversation analysis.\n\nUsing find
ings from a conversation analytic study exploring compassion in nurse-pati
ent interaction\, in this learning salon I will explore how advanced clini
cal practitioners (ACPs) respond to the problem-tellings of older hospital
ised patients. Using audio-visual data\, I will show some of the communica
tion practices\, including delicacy\, which ACPs use to respond in a conte
xtually sensitive manner. I will also consider the relationship between th
ese findings and contemporary conceptualisations of compassion in nursing.
Finally\, I will discuss how the findings may be used in communication sk
 ills training.\n\nFree for members
