SUMMARY:ICCH Pre-Conference Course: Curriculum Development in Communication
  Skills Teaching
DESCRIPTION:This course is directed towards educators of health professiona
 l learners at any level (students\, postgraduate learners\, practicing hea
 lth care providers)  who wish to develop a new curriculum or enhance an e
 xisting curriculum focused on clinical communication skills.\n\nThe course
  will explore how to develop a curriculum suitable to the healthcare setti
 ng each participant operates within\, what to include in the curriculum an
 d how to deliver\, and evaluate the curriculum.  The course combines larg
 e group interactive sessions presenting theory and concrete steps in devel
 oping curricula with small group sessions where participants work on their
  individual curriculum development needs.\n\nThe course will be held in En
 glish and as much as possible will accommodate participants for whom Engli
 sh is not their first language. We are aware that institutions in differen
 t countries will have varying resources in terms of available teachers\, s
 imulated patients and technology and take this into account in helping you
 . The course will be highly interactive and participant centered and will 
 enable individual participants to formulate concrete plans for the future.
  .\nCourse objectives\nAs a result of this course\, participants will be a
 ble to:\n\n 	apply educational theory to designing communication skills cu
 rricula\n 	select and organize the core content of the communication curri
 culum tailor content to their learners’ needs\n 	select appropriate te
 aching methods for each component of the curriculum\n 	integrate communica
 tion with other clinical skills and the rest of the learners’ program\n 
 	evaluate the curriculum\n\nCourse facilitators have extensive experience 
 in curriculum development\, facilitating Train the Trainers Courses for he
 alth professions educators and teaching health professional learners at al
 l levels.\nFacilitators\nMarcy Rosenbaum\, PhD\, is Professor of Family Me
 dicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in the US.  S
 he is currently the President of EACH and former co-chair of tEACH\, the t
 eaching committee of EACH.  She has conducted research on and taught abou
 t clinical communication and medical education for over 30 years and overs
 ees communication skills curriculum for students\, residents and practicin
 g clinicians. She has provided faculty development related to communicatio
 n skills teaching and curriculum all over the world.\n\n\n\nJane Ege Møll
 er\, PhD\, is Associate Professor at Department of Clinical Medicine\, Aar
 hus University in Denmark and the Academic Lead of the clinical communicat
 ion skills courses for residents in Central Denmark Region. She is current
 ly the co-chair of tEACH\, the teaching committee of EACH International As
 sociation of Communication in Healthcare. She has more than 15 years of e
 xperience as a researcher and teacher in the field of clinical communicati
